- Metro Center is cited in a report issued by Cuyahoga County’s Office of Executive. The article reports on the collaboration between the executive Ed FitzGerald and staff from Metro center to improve educational outcomes for the most vulnerable children in Cuyahoga County.
- The Technical Assistance Center on Disproportionality (TACD) is excited to announce the co-keynote speakers for its 2012 Summer Institute. Gloria Ladson-Billings, the Kellner Family Professor of Urban Education at the University of Wisconsin and Elizabeth Harry, Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning at Miami University, will headline an energizing day of dialogue and discovery at our annual Equity in Education conference. The 2012 Summer Institute will be held on July 6, 2012, at New York University. Details and registration information to follow.

- Spanish BETAC mounts its fifth successful annual NYS Spanish Spelling Bee. This initiative prompted a national replicating site this year.
- Current New York State language BETACs are scheduled for consolidation into the Regional Bilingual Education Resources Networks (R-BERNs). State-wide language services will continue through this program.

- Metro Center's BBA Newark Program (The Newark Global Village School Zone) convenes public meeting scheduled for March 8th.
- Pedro Noguera will serve as a panelist on PBS's Need to Know on February 11th, 2011. Need to Know will air a special education-themed edition. Noguera is joined by Dr. Susan Szachowicze, principal of Brockton High School in Massachusetts, and Zakiyah Ansari, parent leader with the Coalition for Education Justice.

- Upward Bound runs series of Financial Aid Workshops
- The Newark Education Trust has cited NYU Metro's initiative in the Newark Public Schools on its list as one of the "Top 11 for 2011"
- In an opinion article in THE Nation, Metro Center's Newark initiative, the Global Village Zone (NGVSZ) is cited as one of the "promising reform programs already operating." The NGVCZ implements a program /process to coordinate instruction, teacher coaching, and family social services in seven high-need neighborhood schools in the city's central ward.
