Author! Author!
There are many websites that provide kids with information about their favorite authors and illustrators. This section of the American Library Association's 700+ Great Sites lists many authors, with information about their lives and their books, and ways to get in touch with them.
  B.J. Pinchbeck's Homework Helper
This is a wonderful guide to encyclopedias, dictionaries, reference works, and other resources on a great variety of subjects. The site has been up for three years and the enthusiasm of its now 13 year-old creator adds appeal to everything from the Ultimate White Pages to Bugs in the News.
  KidsConnect
KidsConnect offers information and references in kids in grade K-12 to be used for school projects. Questions are submitted via e-mail and are answered by volunteer school librarians, usually within two days.
KidsConnect is a component of ICONnect, a technology initiative from the American Association of School Librarians (AASL).
The Internet Public Library: Reference Center
This site provides an "ask a question" feature and a teens collection, as well as sections on reference, arts and humanities, science and technology, and education.
  Content Area/Curriculum Planning
These links for students include such diverse fare as "The Complete Works of Shakespeare," and "The K.I.D.S. Report."
  OWLS Homework Help
Homework help from OWLS, the On-Line Westchester Library System, includes many links to places on the Internet, arranged by Dewey Decimal number. The numbers are annotated, too, so that a child looking for fairytales will be guided to the 300s (Social Science). This is not only useful for Internet searches, but it also serves as a handy Dewey guide for in-person library research.
