New Student Seminar (NSS) is a required first semester course for new undergraduate students (e.g. freshman and transfers). It orients students to the University, the Steinhardt School, and the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication. Students are introduced to the nature of higher education, student life on and around campus and New York City, and to the all important major requirements (also known as program of study). In class, students work together under the guidance of their advisor to actively explore their roles as students in this diverse and global academic community and as future professionals in their chosen fields.
