A Semester Abroad
We strongly encourage all students to study abroad during their time at New York University. The NYU Office of Global Programs offers many sites where students can study abroad while earning course credit: Accra (Ghana), Berlin, Buenoes Aires, Florence, London, Madrid, Paris, Prague, Shanghai, and Tel Aviv.
While completing a semester abroad, our undergraduate students can take select courses that substitute for MAP requirements, as well as courses that can count toward specialization, liberal arts, or unrestricted electives. Please consult an advisor for a list of approved MAP substitutions and to discuss specialization electives. Graduate course credit is also available.
A Course Abroad
In addition to these traditional semester-long programs, our department leads an intensive Media and Globalization summer study abroad course in Hong Kong / Beijing as well as a January intersession Global Food Cultures course in Hong Kong, plus two courses in Paris including Globalization, Memory and Visual Culture and Media, Religion and Globalization: Technologies of the Sacred. These courses are recommended for graduate students, and some admit upper-level undergraduate students.
Students can obtain more information on these programs, as well as on other international academic opportunities, through the Steinhardt School Office of Academic Initiatives and Global Programs by email at steinhardt.global@nyu.edu.
Undergraduate and graduate students considering programs abroad should meet individually with their academic advisor to make sure they can register without falling off schedule for graduation. Undergraduate students who begin the degree program as freshmen should have room in their curriculum to study abroad at least once during their four years at NYU.
