Program Summary
The Media Internship course offered by the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at New York University allows visiting students and non-majors to take advantage of the vast internship opportunities available in media organizations throughout New York City and to earn course credit for their internship experience. Program participants receive access to department resources to locate and secure an internship of their choice in areas such as broadcasting, cable and film, publishing, public relations, advertising, marketing, the non-profit sector and government agencies.
Students attend a course orientation upon arriving at New York University and complete a portfolio of on-site observations and analysis of the organization for which they intern. Once registered for the course, students are eligible for discounted housing at New York University.

Registering for the Course
Step 1
Mail your application form and supporting materials (personal statement, a copy of your resume, and an official transcript) to:

or fax the materials to the attention of Sandra Criscione Blake at 212-995-4046 for course approval. You will receive a reply within approximately one week of the department's receipt of your application materials.
Step 2
After you have been notified by the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication that you have been approved, you must register for the course through the NYU Summer Programs web site. Follow the "Step-by-Step" instructions listed under the HOW TO ENROLL section. Media Internship in New York is located under the course number "E59.1150". You have the opton of registering for 2 or 4 credits.
Total MINIMUM hours worked required per credit:
2 Credits = 90 hours
4 Credits = 180 hours
Step 3
Note: If you have secured an internship prior to applying or registering for the course, skip this step.
Once you are registered for this course, you will receive a NYU Net ID and password, giving you access to the department’s internship database.
Note: You may be asked to come to New York City for an in-person interview by the companies to which you are applying for internships.
Step 4
Apply for NYU Housing, if desired, by contacting NYU's Office of Summer Housing. You can stay in NYU housing for the entire duration of your internship, even if it extends before and after the course dates.
Step 5
Once you have obtained your intership you are required to submit an Internship Registration Form. This form has a section that your employer should fill out and a section that you should fill out. Since you will need an original signature from your employer on the form, you should plan meet with them in person and complete the form together. (If this proves to be logistically difficult you may fax it back and forth.) It is designed to create an opportunity for you and your employer to discuss goals for the internship, and facilitate a clear line of communication in terms of expectations.
This form should be mailed to the attention of Sandra Criscione Blake, Associate Director of Undergraduate Affairs or faxed to 212-995-4046 (Attention: Sandra Criscione Blake). You can complete the form with your employer on the first day of your internship if you do not plan on being in NY until that date. You will be dropped from the course if we do not receive the form by the start date of your internship.

- Departmental approval is required to register for this course.
- Students must obtain a communications or media related internship in New York City. Acceptable internship areas include: advertising, broadcasting (TV and radio), corporate communications, film, government, marketing, non-profit, public relations and publishing.
- Students must have completed a minimum of one year at a college or university and have maintained good academic standing.
