Spend a year in Paris and a year in New York City in this unique
two-year M.A. program that leads to initial certification as a teacher
of French.
Your First Year in Paris
- Spend your first two semesters studying full time in Paris, where you'll immerse yourself in language and culture
- Work
closely with French pedagogues on language acquisition, phonetics,
linguistics, and observe French as a foreign language classes in schools
- Take courses at the University of Paris and participate in weekly workshops and guest lectures
- Study
at NYU's Paris Center, located in the vibrant 16th arrondissement,
which includes computer facilities and a research library
Your Second Year in New York City - Complete
the second and final year of your master's degree as a full- or
part-time student at NYU's Greenwich Village campus in the historic
heart of New York City
- Study contemporary theory and practice
of teaching foreign languages, methods and techniques of communicative
teaching, language through content, language assessment, and second
language acquisition research
- Gain essential experience as a
student teacher. Your cooperating teacher and NYU field supervisor will
closely mentor you during your student teaching in one of our carefully
chosen host New York City public schools. As you progress through the
two-semester sequence of student teaching you will assume increasing
responsibility for your French language classroom
A Special Partnership at NYU
As
a student in this 47-credit M.A. program, you'll benefit from the
expertise and resources of two premier departments at NYU - the
Department of French and their NYU in Paris program in the Graduate
School of Arts and Science and Steinhardt's Department of Teaching and
Learning. You'll earn a joint M.A. degree from both Schools and be
eligible for initial New York State teacher certificatioin in teaching
French as a foreign language, grades 7-12.

Applications
are reviewed for Fall admission only and are due April 15. Admission to
this joint degree program requires an undergraduate major or minor in
French language or literature or the equivalent. Generous scholarships
equal to 30% of tuition are available.
