Our M.A. curriculum draws on theory and practice to help you understand the role of education in solving environmental problems.
- Take courses in environmental education, environmental thought, environmental politics, and ecology
- Choose
from a wide range of electives from throughout NYU, including
environmental policy, environmental history, economics, biology, and
education
- Gain unique urban experience in environmental
education through required New York City-based internships with such
organizations as the Audubon Society, City Parks Foundation, Department
of Environmental Protection, the United Nations, and local public
schools
- Learn to evaluate, develop, or implement educational
initiatives for children, youth, or adults, or undertake applied
research in environmental education
- Gain global experience through unique summer and January intersession study abroad courses on various education topics
- Take
advantage of affiliations with NYU Steinhardt's Science Education
program and the Wallerstein Collaborative for Urban Environmental
Education as well as NYU's Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public
Service
- Study full or part time; many courses are offered in the evenings to accommodate working professionals
Prepare for a Variety of Environmental Education Careers
Alumni
hold positions in city, state, and federal agencies, parks, nature
centers, zoos, botanical gardens, and non-profit organizations, and in
public and private schools. Recent graduates are working at Solar One,
New York City's first solar-powered green energy education center, the
New York Botanical Garden, and Satellite Academy High School in
Manhattan, among others. Other graduates go on to law school or Ph.D.
programs in environmental education.
More About Our Student Body
The
program is ideally suited for those who have a demonstrated interest in
environmental issues and/or education. Some students have experience
teaching and some have volunteered or worked with organizations
concerned with environmental issues, while others have recently
completed undergraduate degrees in education, environmental or
biological sciences, or related fields.
Admissions
Apply by February 1 for Fall semester matriculation.
