Join our email list today to help you decide if one of our dance education programs is right for you.
NYU Steinhardt's Dance Education programs provide high-quality professional development in the theory and practice of dance education. Our approach integrates the developing mind and body in the context of cultural practices. We provide balanced coursework in pedagogy, artistry, and research.
Our curriculum allows you to master your craft with coursework in choreography, technique, and improvisation. Courses in teaching methods, curriculum development, and multicultural practices enable deep understanding of learning and teaching processes. Theory and methods courses develop your skills in research-based inquiry to enhance your own teaching and create new knowledge in the field of dance education.
Fieldwork is integral to learning in many courses, which affords you the opportunity to analyze educational models, exercise research skills, develop professional networks, and awaken to the "idealistic realism" that propels the future of arts education.
Broaden Your Learning Through Global Study
Our January study abroad course in Uganda allows you to develop a global perspective on dance and the performing arts through collaboration with professional dancers, educators, and students at Uganda's Royal Ballet Academy and Makerere University.
The application deadline is January 6 for Fall semester matriculation and November 1 for Spring semester matriculation.
