As part of OPEQ's impact evaluation, NYU and the IRC have been working together to develop a Teacher Instructional Practices and Processes System (TIPPS) tool. TIPPS includes nineteen key concepts that indicate the quality of (i) emotional/social support in the classroom environment, (ii) teacher-provided opportunities for learning and personalization of the material, (iii) facilitation of students’ cognitive development, (iv) equitable treatment of students, and (v) student engagement. The tool’s super-ordinate purpose is as an observational tool that provides teachers with concrete feedback, empowering them to make changes within their classrooms, and creating an environment  conducive to learning for their students. As a part of the existing randomized impact evaluation, TIPPS is being utilized to test for differences between Treatment and Control teachers.
