E10.2140-2141 Qualitative Field Research I and II

These doctoral level courses are a seamless, integrated sequence that involves students actively in learning about major facets of doing and reporting qualitative field research. The first semester focuses on selecting sites, gaining entree, collecting observational and interview data, carrying out recursive research cycles, producing a field log, doing in-process analysis, and working towards trustworthiness. The second semester builds on the first in considering complex analytical schemes and congruent presentational devices, lifting to meta analysis, return to the field, participant checks, and building criteria for writing acceptable qualitative research proposals and reports. Both semesters involve collaboration in the field and at NYU.
