 Lisa Stulberg’s research focuses on the politics of urban schooling, race and education policy, affirmative action in higher education, school choice policy and politics, and LGBT social movements. She is the author of Race, Schools, and Hope: African Americans and School Choice after Brown (Teachers College Press, 2008) and the co-editor (with Eric Rofes) of The Emancipatory Promise of Charter Schools: Toward a Progressive Politics of School Choice (SUNY Press, 2004). She is the co-editor (with Sharon Lawner Weinberg) of Diversity in American Higher Education: Toward a More Comprehensive Approach (Routledge, 2011).  She also is working on a book for Polity called LGBT Social Movements.

Six current EDSP students from different parts of China will talk informally about their experiences and knowledge of education in China. Topics may cover rural-urban disparities, the role of permanent residency system (Hukou) in education, students academic performances and extra-curriculum activities, teacher quality, school choice, higher education admission expansion (Kuozhao), reforms and changes over last three decades, etc.

EDSP and WEPSA invite you to a discussion of NYC’s First Annual “New York City Public Schools Indicator Report” produced by NYC’s Independent Budget Office (http://www.ibo.nyc.ny.us/iboreports/2011edindicatorsreport.pdf).

Ray Domanico, IBO’s Director of Education Research, will share the history, process and future of this annual report on data mandated to flow from the NYC DOE to IBO after the 2009 NYS legislative renewal of mayoral control of the NYC public schools.

Leanna Stiefel, Professor of Economics and Education Policy, will moderate.

Mr. Domanico joined IBO in August 2010 as Director of Education Research.  He has over thirty years of experience in public education policy and practice in New York City and holds a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of California, Berkeley.
