Exceptions/variations on suggested sequencing
The following scenarios cover many of the allowable variations on the suggested sequences, outlining a few that are unacceptable as well.
- 1. RESCH-GE 2085 and RESCH-GE 2086, Basic Statistics I and II, may be followed by RESCH-GE 2996, Biostatistics II, as there is sufficient new material in the latter. This may be of particular interest to Masters students who have interest in the health sciences.
- 2. RESCH-GE 2001 and RESCH-GE 2002, Statistics for the Social and Behavioral Sciences I and II, may be followed by E10.2996, Biostatistics II, for PhD students in Nursing/Allied Health who do not plan to take RESCH-GE 2003 and RESCH-GE 2004, Intermediate and Advanced Quantitative Methods. This is also a reasonable route for a student who prefers to grasp the material a bit more slowly: the full sequence would be RESCH-GE 2001, RESCH-GE 2002, RESCH-GE 2996, RESCH-GE 2003, RESCH-GE 2004.
- 3. The sequence RESCH-GE 2001, Statistics for the Social and Behavioral Sciences I, followed by RESCH-GE 2996, Biostatistics II is not allowable. T-tests, ANOVA, and regression would get less coverage than required with this sequence. Similarly, RESCH-GE 2085, Basic Statistics I does not serve as a prerequisite for RESCH-GE 2996, Biostatistics II.
- 4. The sequence RESCH-GE 2995, Biostatistics I, followed by RESCH-GE 2002, Statistics for the Social and Behavioral Sciences II is not allowable.
- 5. RESCH-GE 2995 and RESCH-GE 2996, Biostatistics I and II, may serve as prerequisite for RESCH-GE 2003 and RESCH-GE 2004, Intermediate and Advanced Quantitative Methods, with permission of instructor.
- 6. RESCH-GE 2001, Statistics for the Social and Behavioral Sciences I, is the recommended course for PhD students with prior statistical coursework who are not prepared to go directly into RESCH-GE 2002, Statistics for the Social and Behavioral Sciences II (if there is any ambiguity, one should consult with the instructor). Similarly, RESCH-GE 2995, Biostatistics I, is recommended for those who are not prepared to go directly into RESCH-GE 2996, Biostatistics II.
- 7. RESCH-GE 2085, Basic Statistics I, or RESCH-GE 2995, Biostatistics I, are recommended courses for Masters students with prior statistical coursework who are not prepared to go directly into RESCH-GE 2086, Basic Statistics II or RESCH-GE 2996, Biostatistics II, respectively.
