Health, Mental Health and Safety in Schools guidelines

Review and Comment to Begin August 15, 2001
www.nationalguidelines.org

Educators have identified poor health and psychological and social problems as causes of underachievement.  The Health, Mental Health and Safety in Schools guidelines are designed to provide a means to address these concerns.  The guidelines are based on sound research and/or best practices.  The guidelines will help schools address health problems that can improve attendance, contribute to school success, and equalize student access to education.

More than 300 school health and safety professionals from dozens of national education and health organizations, as well as other school health supporters and parents, participated in developing these guidelines for students and staff enrolled and working in elementary, middle/junior and high schools across the United States.

Now it is your turn to help assemble the pieces that schools and communities need for health services and programs, health education, and healthy and safe environments.

The Health, Mental Health and Safety in Schools guidelines will be available for public review from August 15, 2001 through September 20, 2001.  Starting Wednesday August 15, please log on to www.nationalguidelines.org

If you have any questions, please contact Kyle Wolfe, Project Assistant, American Academy of Pediatrics at 847/434-7788 or by e-mail at kwolfe@aap.org
