Social Marketing in Public Health Conference
If you are a health educator, certified health education specialist, health
communication specialist, academician, researcher, nutritionist, or public
health practitioner, you will want to attend the 11th Annual Social
Marketing in Public Health Conference and the 8th Annual Field School.
The conference takes place June 20-23, 2001, at the Sheraton Sand Key Resort, Clearwater
Beach, Florida. The Field School is comprised of 5 courses offered in a concentrated
one-week format, two taking place immediately before, one as part of the conference, and
two following it. Field Schools may be taken either for- or not-for-university credit. The

The 8th Annual Field School includes the following courses: Health Message Design, Dr.
Terrance Albrecht; Formative Research Methods for Social Marketing, Dr. Carol Bryant;
Introduction to Social Marketing, Dr. Kelli McCormack Brown; Focus Group Methods in Public
Health Research, Dr. Richard Krueger; and Social Marketing Management for Non-Profit
Organizations, Dr.Charles Weinberg.
Conference speakers include prominent social marketers and health
educators, such as: Carol Bryant, University of South Florida, Prevention
Research Center; Alan Andreasen, McDonough School of Business, Georgetown University;
Beverly Schwartz, Fleishman-Hillard International; Bill Smith, Academy for Educational
Development (AED); Craig Lefebvre, Prospect & Associates; Heidi Keller, Washington
State Health Department; and Robert Marshall, Rhode Island Health Department. The
Andreasen Scholar Presentation, sponsored by Best Start Social Marketing, Inc., will be
given by Robert Hornik, University of Pennsylvania.
The Field School and Conference are designed for public health
professionals and health educators in a variety of settings including CDC,
state and local health departments, other public health agencies, colleges
and universities, volunteer agencies and non-profit organizations. Participants
usually include CDC designees, program planners and administrators, health educators,
health communication and health information specialists, researchers, academicians, and
graduate
students.
