AAHE ANNOUNCES BOOK ON SERVICE LEARNING
RESTON, VA - American Association for Health Education (AAHE)
Executive Director, Becky Smith announced today the release of a new book entitled Service
Learning in Health Education. This text provides a complete guide for incorporating
service learning into health education curricula at the secondary or higher education
levels.
Dr. Jerrold Greenberg, Professor in the Department of Public and Community Health at
the University of Maryland served at the Editor for the book and he states: "We are
very grateful to members of the AAHE Service Learning Group who contributed chapters to
this state of the art text".
Areas of focus include:

Differentiation between service learning and other
forms of
service;
* The
theoretical basis of service learning;
* Research
which supports service learning goals;
* How
service learning has been employed in health educationp;
*
Establishing and maintaining partnerships with
community
agencies;
*
Conducting meaningful reflection and evaluation;
* Grading.
Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) can obtain 13 hours of
continuing education credit through completing the professional development components of
the book.
