ACHA CONSULTATION SERVICES PROGRAM
CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Nominations/Candidates
The Consultation Services Program (CSP) is seeking to expand its current
roster of consultants to develop a broad-based pool of ACHA professionals. As the
field of college health becomes more complex and institutions are seeking to evaluate
overall health services programs and at times specific areas of concern, the CSP is
seeking candidates who can provide specialized knowledge and experience. There are
many "new territories" in higher education and marketing ACHA specialized
services to institutions will be developed to target emerging areas of concern. ACHA
will identify an initial pool of 15 new individuals. We are seeking candidates who
have proven experience and expertise in the following areas:
* Electronic Medical Management systems: issues of security, privacy,
and confidentiality for electronic medical management systems; HIPAA
security applications and Patient Privacy Act requirements
* health promotion, outreach and education addressing high-risk
behaviors (drug abuse, alcohol, sexual harassment, eating disorders, etc)
* consultative experience in the integration of Student Health
Services and Mental Health/Counseling Services
* student health insurance costs and financing in a volatile market
that limits insurance plan portability for college students
* campus building programs and the design and placement of college
health centers
* the value of accreditation in a changing third-party billing and
regulatory marketplace
* financing and budget reviews; alternative financing of services;
outsourcing ancillary services (e.g., lab, x-ray, pharmacy, counseling, etc)
* implementing the new ACHA Standards on Health Promotion in Higher Education
* understanding the campus population in a changing higher education
environment:
* what the ACHA National College Health Assessment can do to
strengthen health services on college campuses
* survey or consultative experience in college health service program
evaluations
Commitment/Time Required:
Consultations are usually from 1 1/2 to 2 days depending on the scope of the request,
excluding travel time. Consultants make their own travel
arrangements via an ACHA-designated travel agency. Dates of the consultation and travel
arrangements are arranged through ACHA. Materials are sent to the consultants for review
prior to the review by the school. Travel expenses are paid along with an honorarium of
$400/day, $200/half-day. Consultants are required to prepare a report for the
institution for delivery in final form 4-6 weeks after the review. Two consultants are
usually selected to conduct a review; in some instances for smaller schools or a
consultation request for review of a specialized area, one consultant is assigned.
Consultants are expected to participate in at least one consultation each year.
Training/Orientation:
For selected candidates attending the ACHA Las Vegas meeting, a training
session will be conducted from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29. The
session will be an orientation on the ACHA process, survey preparation,
issues faced or identified by consultants. A case history of an ACHA
consultation with surveyor participants and a member of the institution will
also be presented. The process, evaluations and recommendations will be
described and a testimonial presented by the institution describing outcomes as a result
of the ACHA consultation.
