National Youth Tobacco Survey Reports Available On the Web
"Every day 3,000 young people become hooked on tobacco. A third of those will die
prematurely because of it." -- Report data from the National
Youth Tobacco Survey is now available on-line from the American Legacy
Foundation--the organization that conducted the survey in partnership with
the Centers for Disease Control.
The comprehensive survey was administered in the Fall 1999 to more than 15,000 students in
grades 6 to 12 in 131 schools across America. The data is available in four reports,
each subtitled, "Results from the 1999 National Youth Tobacco Survey."
The First Look Report #1 *Cigarette Smoking Among Youth was released in June of 2000,
followed by "Report #2*What Youth Think About Smoking; #3 Pathways to Established
Smoking; and, #4 The Relationship Between Cigarette Use and Other Tobacco Products*each
released in October 2000.
All four of the reports can be downloaded in PDF format from the American Legacy
Foundation website at:
