The New York University Center for Health Promotion and ACHA's "College Students in High-Risk Situations" Project are pleased to announce an upcoming free training that may be of interest to those individuals in the greater New York City area.

"Building Safe Zones Programs"

Presenters/trainers include: William Coury, New York University;
Jane Bogart, New York University; and Todd Smith, New York University.

This workshop will focus on a step-by-step approach to creating an
effective Safe Zones program specific to your institution's culture:  including selection of a symbol or sticker; marketing to specific areas of campus; recruitment, screening, and preparation of potential allies; developing info and referral networks; training; collaboration with LGBT community resources; and ongoing program troubleshooting.  Together, participants will discover what Safe Zones are, and what they are not, and begin to identify the challenges in establishing Safe Zones programs on their campuses.

This workshop will also include a general update on HIV/AIDS research,
education, and prevention to coincide with World AIDS Day.

This training is the second in the 2000-2001 NYU Outreach Training Series
for HIV/AIDS Prevention Education of College Students in High-Risk Situations.

The third training in the series, "Beyond the Safe Zone," will be held on
January 29, 2001.
The series is designed to assist in fostering safe, healthy, welcoming,
and responsive environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender
students. Each of the workshops may be attended independently, or if preferred, one may attend an all-day training event (combining the content of all three trainings) on Saturday, March 31, 2001.
