NYC LGBT Training Opportunity

The New York University Center for Health Promotion and ACHA's
"College Students in High-Risk Situations" Cooperative Agreement are
pleased to announce an upcoming free training that may be of interest to
those individuals in the greater New York City area.

Monday, November 6, 2000        1- 5 p.m.
"Introduction to Safe Zones:  Becoming an Ally of the LGBT Student
Population"

Sponsored by New York University Center for Health Promotion

Presenters/trainers include: William Coury, New York University;
Jane Bogart, New York University; Todd Smith, New York University;
and "Outspoken" Peer Educators of the NYU Office of LGBT Student Services

This workshop will introduce the participants to the why and how-to's of
becoming an ally to the LGBT population on your campus.  The program
will focus on understanding the myths and realities surrounding lesbian,
gay, bisexual, and transgender people.   Become a person who can provide
support, information, and a safe haven for LGBT persons at your institution!

This training is the first in the 2000-2001 NYU Outreach Training Series
for HIV/AIDS Prevention Education of College Students in High-Risk
Situations. Additional trainings will be held on December 4, 2000 and
January 29, 2001.

The series will equip college and university personnel with the
information, tools, and practical experience to foster safe, healthy,
welcoming, and responsive environments for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender students. Each of the three workshops may be attended
independently, or if preferred, all three can be combined as a one-day
training on Saturday, March 31, 2001.
