The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and the American Association for Health Education (AAHE) co-sponsored an invitational meeting January 15-16 in Dulles, Virginia to examine future directions for quality assurance in professional preparation in health education. Both AAHE and SOPHE have a long history of leadership in quality assurance through the SOPHE/AAHE Baccalaureate Approval Committee (SABPAC) and the AAHE/National Committee on Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). The meeting was held to follow up on the recommendations for addressing professional preparation in the report "Health Education in the 21st Century." The SOPHE and AAHE Boards will meet independently this spring to address the Dulles meeting recommendations and to plan future opportunities for soliciting profession-wide input to strengthen quality assurance in professional preparation.
