Program Credentialing

Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH)

An independent agency, recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation. Accredits schools of public health and graduate degree programs in community health education outside schools of public health and community health/preventive medicine programs.

National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)

The only national agency in the United States recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council on Postsecondary Accreditation (COPA) to accredit teacher education. NCATE offers a voluntary accreditation process for teacher education programs in school health education.

SOPHE/AAHE Baccalaureate Program Approval Committee (SABPAC)

A joint effort by the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) and the Association for the Advancement of Health Education (AAHE) to approve undergraduate health education programs.

Individual Credentialing

National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHEC)

An independent national not-for-profit agency which certifies health education specialists, promotes professional development, and works to strengthen professional preparation.
