Senior Legacy
The votes are in! This year the Class of 2010 will leave its mark on...Alternative Breaks
The NYU Alternative Breaks Program, offered through the Center for Student Activities, Leadership & Service, provides students the opportunity to participate in a yearlong experience exploring social, political, and cultural dynamics of a community. Each year, over 250 students travel throughout the world to spend their winter break, spring break and weekends working with various host communities on such issues as literacy, poverty, homelessness, racism, immigration, disaster relief, and the environment. Through learning and practice, students explore the theory of integrating service, education, and reflection to create meaningful change in their communities. Contributions to this Fund help to underwrite expenses for students participating in the Alternative Breaks Program. Gifts to the Senior Legacy will help facilitate this philanthropic mission for students by paying for the travel arrangements, meals, or housing. The amount of the stipend and number of students it will benefit will be based on the amount of funds raised.
What is Senior Legacy?
Founded with the Class of 2000, Senior Legacy is a program run by seniors for seniors, celebrating the experiences and accomplishments you have had as students, and working together to leave a permanent legacy to benefit current and future students. In 2003, NYU's senior class expanded upon this existing tradition - senior class giving. This was the first time in NYU's history that all of the Schools joined together to ask seniors to establish a University-wide senior undergraduate legacy.
At NYU Steinhardt, the Senior Legacy Project is a collaborative initiative that involves alumni relations with the Steinhardt senior legacy committee, a group of undergraduate seniors, to plan workshops, receptions and other programs to enhance the senior year, while encouraging direct interaction between alumni and undergraduate seniors. It is also an opportunity for seniors to invest in the future of NYU by contributing just $5, which will go towards a class gift to be given to the school for the benefit of future students.
Your Legacy at Work!
By participating in Senior Legacy programs and by contributing to the Senior Legacy class gift, student can build a class spirit and set an example for alumni and younger classes. Your legacy will serve as a prominent force propelling NYU now and in the future. And to support your efforts, President John Sexton has instituted the President's Challenge by matching the total amount raised. While the initial gift will help the Steinhardt School, the president's funds will allow the NYU senior class to realize a university-wide initiative of your choosing.
