2016 Valedictory Celebration

More than 1,400 master's and advanced certificate graduates participated in NYU Steinhardt's Valedictory Celebrations on May 17, 2016. The Beacon Theatre was filled with proud and enthusiastic family and friends, who tweeted congratulatory messages to #Steinhardt2016 for the theatre's big screen. Celebrations featured the Dancing Educators, the NYU Brass Ensemble, the NYU Pipes and Drums, the Music Theatre Ensemble, and concluded with a rousing rendition of "New York, New York" by the Steinhardt Music Theatre Ensemble.

For graduates of the Departments of Art and Art Professions; Music and Performing Arts Professions; Media, Culture, and Communication; and Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities

The program included remarks by Dean Dominic Brewer, University President Andrew Hamilton, Professor John Torreano, and graduate Shawn BedassieJeffrey A. Dachis (MA ’93) received the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.

Shawn Bedassie is passionate about research and music. His thesis on the #BlackLivesMatter movement reviews scholarship on the myth of inferiority and the continued oppression of the black population.

Jeffrey A. Dachis, MA ’93, Performing Arts Administration
Jeffrey Dachis is the CEO and founder of mobile diabetes management platform One Drop. He is also the founder and former CEO of Razorfish, and an internationally-recognized expert in design, marketing, and digital technology.

Abby Spilka has served in leadership roles in the NYU Future Counselors advising new and prospective students. She just completed her clinical internship counseling seniors at Jewish Home Lifecare, and has been a hospice volunteer for a decade.

Nitzia S. Logothetis, MA ’11, Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness
Nitzia Logothetis is a psychotherapist and the founder and executive chairwoman of the Seleni Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to women’s mental health and well-being.
