2016 Doctoral Convocation

On May 12, 2016, NYU Steinhardt faculty hooded 108 new doctoral graduates at the Doctoral Convocation, held in NYU's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. The program included remarks by Dean Dominic Brewer, NYU President Andrew Hamilton, Professor Marion Nestle, and doctoral graduates Edwina Adrien and William Simpkins. Monica Rae Martinez (MA ’91, PhD ’04) received the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. The Convocation concluded with a rousing rendition of “New York, New York” by the Steinhardt Music Theatre Ensemble. More than 800 relatives, friends, and colleagues joined the graduates for the ceremony and reception.

Monica Rae Martinez, MA ’91, PhD ’04, Higher Education Administration
Monica Martinez is a senior fellow to the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, a presidential appointee to the White House Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics, and the co-author of the book Deeper Learning (The New Press, 2014).
