How much will the January Intersession experience for graduate students cost me?
Please note: This information relates to 2007 intersession costs. Check back soon for 2008 January and March study abroad programs costs.
You should consider four areas in calculating your costs: tuition and fees, airfare, housing and activities fees, and spending money. Tuition: If this is the only class you are taking in the Spring 2006 semester, the total of tuition and fees is $3,568 payable directly to NYU (total for 3 credits, $4,672 for 4 credits). If you are taking more classes than the Intersession course, please see the Bursar’s website at http://www.nyu.edu/bursar/tuition.fees/ for information on total tuition and fees for the Spring semester. The Spring tuition payment deadline for graduate students is February 1, 2007. Airfare: The following information is only to give you an idea of the average plane fares. The actual costs may change for this winter, and depend on how early you buy your tickets and the flights you choose. Puebla: $400-$700 round-trip London: $500-$700 round-trip Most flights to London are night flights, meaning that to arrive on January 2nd you will need to leave on January 1st. Please do not buy your tickets until you are sure that the class will run; you may call us if you have questions. Housing and activities fees: The housing and activities fees are listed below for January Intersession 2007. If you are planning on being in London or Puebla before or after the official program dates, you are responsible for arranging your own lodging. The total of your housing and activities fee is due on November 15th. Puebla: Students in Puebla will be charged $600 for a double room at the University of the Americas. Activity fees for all courses in Puebla will be $350. London: Students in London will be charged $960 for a double room and $1470 for a single in the hotel. Activity fees for all courses in London will be $250 Spending money: You will be responsible for most of your meals, transportation, and personal entertainment. The Student Handbook, available later this semester from the Study Abroad office, will give you a better idea of restaurant and transportation costs in your host city. Don’t forget that you will also need to buy the texts necessary for your class. Currently, the U.S. dollar is weak compared to the British pound (for current exchange rates, go to money.cnn.com/markets/currencies). If you are on a conservative budget, you will need at least $700 for food and transportation. Other activities such as entertainment and weekend travel can cost a bit more. If you are going to be in London before or after the official program dates, you are responsible for your lodging, which can be expensive.
