Teaching and Learning, Associate Professor/Professor Of English Education (Tenure-Track/Tenured)

The Steinhardt School at New York University seeks a distinguished scholar and teacher of English Education to join its faculty in the Department of Teaching and Learning in September 2008.

The successful candidate will be well qualified to contribute to a dynamic reform-minded program in teacher education – one with deep disciplinary roots as well as interdisciplinary commitments, a strong urban focus, and global interests. She or he will bring a considerable knowledge of teaching as well as special research expertise in one or more of the following areas: approaches to literature, reading, and composition; adolescent literacy practices in schools and other youth settings; the pluralistic cultural content and context of English curricula; the role of technologies in the development of English curricula and instruction; the teaching of English in urban and multilingual settings; the pre-service and in-service education of English teachers; and the links between theory and practice in the teaching of the English language arts.

The successful candidate will have a well developed research agenda and also be prepared to contribute to a strong community of practice at NYU in teaching students of English education and literacy at the undergraduate, masters, and PhD levels. She or he will also be well disposed in terms of scholarship, interests, and interpersonal skills to connect with other faculty in the humanities within both the Steinhardt School and the Faculty of Arts and Science.

Qualifications include an earned doctorate, a strong record of publication consistent with the position description, and a record of distinguished teaching at the school and university levels.
