Visiting Assistant Professor of Higher Education
Toni Gifford is a senior higher education manager with experience in planning, policy and leadership. Prior to joining the Steinhardt faculty, Dr. Gifford was associate director of the team charged with the early development of CUNY’s newest community college, a campus dedicated to preparing underserved students for academic and professional success, and went on to serve as the college’s Director of Partnerships. Prior to working at CUNY, she spent twelve years at the Bank Street College of Education as chief of staff working with the senior leadership team, trustees, and community on a wide range of policy and planning projects. In 2007, she was asked to establish the Office of Institutional Research, and served as its first director. Prior to her work in higher education, Toni served as a policy researcher at MPR Associates, a research and consulting firm that specializes in education, she worked on a number of studies related to educational quality and access for the National Center for Research in Vocational Education, the National Assessment of Vocational Education, and the National Center for Educational Statistics. Gifford received her PhD in higher education from Steinhardt and her M.P.P from the University of California at Berkeley.
