Steinhardt has a New Name
As Dean of the Steinhardt School, I am pleased to announce our new name:
The Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development.
Our new name is an affirmation of the ways in which NYU Steinhardt is meeting the needs of society. We have a long history of connecting theory to practice, building communities within and beyond our classrooms, and nurturing the human spirit. Our new name more boldly embraces our mission to advance knowledge, creativity, and innovation at the crossroads of human learning, culture, development, and well-being. It was also of prime importance to many members of the Steinhardt community that our name be more inclusive of our diverse academic programs in applied psychology, art, communication, education, health, and music.
Adopting a new name for our school was not a solo endeavor The impetus for this change came from NYU’s Strategic Assessment Committee and from discussions with Steinhardt faculty, staff, and students. I also received feedback from other NYU deans and vice presidents, and members of the Steinhardt Deans’ Council. NYU’s trustees voted to approve this recommendation at their fall 2006 meeting. This has truly been a Steinhardt community effort.
To celebrate our new name, we’ve re-designed our web site and created a new look for our materials and publications. We invite you to join us in our efforts.
