Welcome
Welcome to the website for the Project for Developing Chinese Language Teachers (Project DCLT) of New York University's Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, funded over three years by the Freeman Foundation. This initiative provides services to school districts, individual schools and teachers to meet the growing demand for Chinese Language programs and teachers in K-12 schools in the U.S. The goal of the project is to develop and train qualified Chinese language teachers who are capable of establishing and sustaining Chinese Language Programs, and to work with schools and districts toward the same end. May Forum Teaching Chinese Through Games
Forum member teachers submitted games they have used successfully in the classroom, and volunteered to teach the rest of us how to play. We divided into small groups to experience the games as our students do in the classroom. We all learned so much from our volunteer teachers, thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us!
April Forum Education in the U.S. and China: A Comparative Perspective
Dr. Wang Juefei of The Freeman Foundation shared his considerable knowledge of the US and Chinese education systems with us. More details will be posted shortly on our new blog, and view pictures below:
March Forum Classroom Management: Real Stories from Real Teachers
A great discussion which presented us with many ideas and solutions to issues we all face in the classroom. Many thanks to our presenters, teachers Lily Shen, Li Trotter, Nicole Tsai and Jianlan Zhao. See discussion and clips from the event here.
February Forum Music to My Ears: Using Songs to Teach Chinese
Project DCLT, NYC ALBETAC and CLTA-GNY joined forces to present this workshop on using music to teach Chinese. Presenter Zhang Hong of Binghamton University had us all on our feet singing. We learned to project our voices (to the back of the classroom!) and discussed how to use songs in our own classrooms to improve pronunciation, fluency in speaking, and language retention. See pictures and video of the forum here.
January Forum Technology for Chinese Teachers: Learning, Communicating and Connecting
James Rolle of The Fieldston School showed us how to use Voicethread to create listening and speaking opportunities, and China Institute previewed its new Online Resource Center.
