The Center for Research
on Culture, Education, and Development represents a coordinated
effort to create a scholarly community of national significance.
We have assembled leading scholars from diverse scientific
disciplines (e.g., economics, education, sociology, media
studies, public policy, community psychology, developmental
psychology, and social psychology) all of whom provide expertise
across contexts, developmental stages, and research methodologies.
Center members have published highly acclaimed work on infant
and pre-schoolers’ learning, language, and cognitive
development; children and adolescents’ school performance,
academic achievement, peer relations, and concepts of self;
the roles of families, schools, peers, media, workplace, social
policies, and culture on the developmental trajectories of
young children and youth; and have extensive experience working
within numerous schools in New York City and school systems
across the country.
