Video Game Theory
The purpose of this class is both to provide a general introduction to the field of video game studies, & to suggest a host of divergent directions such research may take in the near future. From the phenomenology of thumbs to the ethical thickets of codes & cheats, the class will address the key questions facing game researchers today; true to the field’s intent interdisciplinary nature, methodologies considered will very from ethnography to semiotic analysis. Relevant examples will be provided throughout, & no preexisting knowledge of gaming is necessary.
