Seminar in Music Theory: Music Cognition
This course covers a range of specialized topics in music cognition with a focus on how research in the field can inform the study of music theory & analysis. Topics discussed include the perception of musical structures such as harmony & rhythm as well as higher-level phenomena like expectation & tension. Implications for analysis in the domains of performance, composition, & improvisation are explored. All topics are approached from multiples perspectives including theoretical modeling, experimental psychology, & computation.
