Empire, Revolution, and Media
This course examines the role of media in the history of empires & revolutions & the history of media empires. It focuses on the investment in media forces by both empires & revolutions, & the tendency of media to form empires that are subject to periodic “revolution” in the marketplace with the contexts of colonization, decolonization & globalization. Media discussed include prints, paintings, photography, journalism, fiction, cinema, the Internet & digital media.
