Epidemiology of Infectious Disease and Nutrition in Developing Countries

  • Description: The goals of this course are two-fold: first, to understand the epidemiology of infectious diseases in developing countries & second, to explore the relationship between infectious diseases & nutritional status. During the semester, we will review the epidemiology of common infectious diseases, including the distribution, determinants & interventions that have been implemented . We will also discuss how nutritional status affects infectious diseases & how infectious diseases impact on nutritional status. Finally we will discuss epidemiologic transition as it relates to both infectious diseases & nutritional status, & identify where different developing countries are in terms of this transition.
