• Description: Critical examination of issues of transformation & the democratization of South African society through visual culture. Students will explore the impact of democracy on visual cultural structures by studying the many perspectives of contemporary arts in Southern Africa. This contextual exploration of the relationship between art & democracy could serve as a platform for addressing issues of cultural policy, art education, & visual culture in comparison with the democratic structure of the arts & art making in the U.S.A.
