Double Reed Day at New York University

Oboists and Bassoonists from the greater New York City area gathered at New York University for Double Reed Day 2011 - a day long event of master classes, workshops and a faculty/student concert. Loren Glickman, legendary bassoonist, was presented with the NYU Award: " A Life Dedicated to Excellence In Music" by NYU Professors Matt Sullivan and Dr. Esther Lamneck.

2011 Honoree
Loren Glickman is recognized as one of America’s foremost bassoon soloists and chamber music performers. He was one of the founding artists of the prestigious Lincoln Center Chamber Music Society where he performed for twenty years. He has performed at the White House, at the United Nations, and on many tours throughout the continental United States and Alaska. Mr. Glickman participated in the Festival Casals in Puerto Rico, the Aldeburgh Festival in England, The Spoleto Festival in Italy, and the Madeira Bach Festival. He has been guest artist in concerts with the Juilliard Quartet, The Guarneri Quartet, the Lenox Quartet, and the Alexander Schneider Quartet, and has recorded chamber music on Columbia Records, Angel Records, Vanguard, MGM, Kapp and Counterpoint Records (including recordings under the direction of Igor Stravinsky of his Histoire du Soldat, the Octet for Winds and the Septet).

Loren Glickman has taught and performed in China, Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, England, Italy, Canada and Australia. As a conductor, he has conducted orchestras in the United States, Canada and Thailand, as well as the TV series’ The Defenders and The Nurses and The Rosie O’Donnell Show. As a composer, he has written music for many films and documentaries and has published over 90 pieces for bassoon, solo and ensemble currently available through TrevCo Music. Loren Glickman is the author of two books “Don’t Sqveeze de Bow”, reminiscences about the violinist-conductor Alexander Schneider,
and “Maestro! Where’s The Beat?” about his many “lives” in the music business along with countless anecdotes about the famous musical personages with whom he has worked. He is also the author along with Mark Popkin of the definitive book on bassoon reed-making. He is the co- director of the Glickman-Popkin Bassoon Camp which has been in operation for 34 years. Mr. Glickman has been on the faculties of the Juilliard School, Queens College, Montclair State College and with the Canadian National Youth
Orchestra. He was born in Cleveland, started bassoon lessons with Sanford Sharoff and graduated “With Distinction” from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester where he studied with Vincent Pezzi.
