About the Jhumki Basu Foundation

Established by Radha and Dipak Basu, the parent's of Jhumki Basu, the mission of the Jhumki Basu Foundation (JBF) is to carry Jhumki's legacy forward and build on her vision and passion to achieve equity in Science Education. The objective of the Foundation is to discover, nurture and spread innovative and sustainable programs to democratize Science Education. JBF will raise funds, make grants, implement projects, and manage awards and scholarships, science fairs, competitions and other programs in Science Education. The Foundation is a registered nonprofit corporation. Section 501(c)(3) tax-exemption status from the Internal Revenue Service is anticipated. About Jhumki Basu

Jhumki Basu, NYU Steinhardt Associate Professor, Science Education died on December 16, 2008 of cancer.  Doing meaningful work in urban schools is ultimately what was most important to Basu."I feel strongly that my research should make a difference in the lives of the kids in the community where I live. It's important to me that there be an activist part to what I do."
