Education in the twenty-first century brings with it unique challenges and opportunities. Human migrations from every corner of the globe coupled with intensive school reform efforts, decentralization, and growing pressure for improved quality, access and equity in education has catapulted schooling to the center of public debates. Schooling, now officially recognized as a basic human right, plays a critical role in the processes of integration and social and economic development. Given the increased demand for highly-skilled workers in today's knowledge economy and the pressing need for educated citizens to participate in civil society, the relevance and sphere of influence of education systems have dramatically expanded, and educators and policy makers are being called on to make significant changes to curriculum, policy, and practice to better reflect contemporary society.

This student conference seeks to foster discussion and an open exchange of ideas on topics related to the ways in which educators, education systems, politicians, philanthropists, and students alike have responded to contemporary educational and societal demands.
