Commission on Teaching
The Commission on Teaching was established in 1994 by the Dean of the School of Culture, Education, and Human Development as a result of a series of recommendations made by a schoolwide Committee on Teaching Effectiveness. The 12-member commission is composed of full- and part-time faculty who represent the arts, health and education fields. The commission's broad charge is to find ways to enhance the environment in which faculty teach and students learn. The commission meets regularly to discuss ways to encourage experimentation and innovation in the classroom to open possibilities for developing and introducing new options and techniques, to promote an environment in which recognition and rewards for teaching may be explored, to assess teaching for the learner, and to serve as a resouce for the teaching of sensitive content. Open forums are periodically held for faculty to discuss and reflect on their teaching.
