Fall 2014 Orientation

All new students are required to attend this orientation, during which you will receive information about the Sociology of Education program requirements and the degree process. You will meet with program faculty and current students.  Please see the schedule below for details.

9:30 – 9:45 Coffee and Pastries / Check in

9:45 – 10:15 Welcome and Introductions
Lisa Stulberg, Program Director, Faculty, and Current Students
Introduction of key faculty and administrative staff in the department;
Student introductions and open dialogue about expectations.

10:15 – 10:45 Coursework and the Academic Experience

Learn about course requirements and electives; how to utilize your academic advisor effectively;
how academic integrity is defined at NYU.

11:00-12:40: The Learning of Culture (Required course for SOED students)

1:00 – 1:45: Student Panel on Academics
Current students will give their advice about how to succeed in the Sociology of Education program, including tips about finding internships, handling the workload, and writing the thesis.

Admitted Students Reception: Applied Statistics, Social Science, and Humanities

We would like to invite you to a welcome event for admitted MA students in the Humanities and Social Sciences department, of which the Education and Social Policy program is a part.  The reception will take place on Thursday, April 10th from 5-7pm.  The admissions office will send all admitted students an official invitation.
