Graduate Studio Art Programs

 

M.F.A Studio Art

The MFA Program admits only 10 students each year, allowing a uniquely experimental dialogue to emerge between students and faculty. The DIY legacy of downtown New York combines with the complexities of participatory democracy and the contemporary art world to create a program in constant evolution. Interdisciplinary in approach, the program includes an eclectic mix of theory and practice, weekly visiting artists & curators, global courses, teaching, and exhibition opportunities

M.A Studio Art

The 3-Summer MA Program in Studio Art provides an opportunity to balance intensive graduate study in New York with other demands. Students develop their work and ideas with renowned artists and critics such as Lyle Ashton Harris, John Torreano, and Maureen Gallace. The interdisciplinary program includes private studios, visiting artists, and a thesis exhibition.

Advanced Certificate

The new Advanced Certificate Program allows students with an undergraduate or graduate degree to work closely with the New York artists and critics on our faculty. The program can be completed in one intensive summer, or over the course of an academic year, and is ideal for students who wish to create a new body of work, expand their knowledge of critical issues in art, or prepare for graduate study.

Global Study

Graduate and Advanced Certificate opportunities for global study in Art include Winter Session and Summer courses in NYU sites such as Madrid, Beijing, Shanghai, Berlin, and Paris, as well as independent study in the Berlin and Ghana ArtSites during the academic year. MA or Certificate students can choose to study in Berlin, and MFA students may apply for the exchange program with the Sorbonne sponsored by the Foundation Bruni-Sarkozy.
