Student Teaching: MA program in Teachers of Art, All Grades

As a graduate student in the 36-credit initial certification Teachers of Art, All Grades program, you will participate in both observations and student teaching.  You are required to complete at least 100 hours of observation in elementary and secondary school settings prior to beginning and completing a minimum of 300 hours of student teaching. 

All MA students begin their studies in the Summer term.  You will complete 50 hours of observations in an elementary school when you start the program in the summer. 

In the Fall, you will enroll in School Arts II: Issues in Pedagogy and Curriculum (Secondary), ARTED-GE 2272, for 3 credits.  This course gives you the opportunity to complete 50 hours of observations in a secondary school classroom.  In the Fall, you will also complete a minimum of 150 hours of student teaching in an elementary school by enrolling in ARTED-GE 2901, Student Teaching: Elementary School, for 3 credits. 

In the Spring, you will complete a minimum of 150 hours of student teaching in a secondary school through the course, ARTED-GE 2902, Student Teaching: Secondary School, 3 credits.

Upon completion of the program, you will meet the academic requirements for New York State certification as a teacher of art in grades K-12.
