MFA OPEN STUDIO EVENT

Saturday November 21st 2009 from 5:00-9:30pm
NYU Steinhardt is pleased to announce the 1st and 2nd year MFA open studio night. Join us as the 21 artists who make up this interdisciplinary program host an evening of events related to their art making practice. In addition, artist Jeffrey Vallance will be giving a lecture before the open studios. Several MFA candidates have also curated a screening of films and previously unscreened documentary footage from the Fales Library Downtown Archive, which showcases the work of artists/musicians/dancers from the East Village and Lower East Side from 1976-1987.

Dr. Punkenhofer founded ART&IDEA, a non-profit organization for contemporary art in 1995. He has curated over 80 exhibitions, publications, and special projects with more than 300 artists worldwide. Punkenhofer serves as Artistic Director of Vienna Art Week (since 2005) and the Flow Festival - the first open space in the Balkans, uniting 100 participants from science and culture from more than 10 countries in the Danube region.

Punkenhofer is the Director of the Austrian World Fair Office in charge of Austria's EXPO projects in Aichi, Japan (2005) and Zaragoza, Spain (2008). Since 2005 he has also been in charge of the Creative Industries Office of Austrian Trade at the Federal Economic Chamber. Punkenhofer curated Island in the Mur, the main attraction of Graz 2003 - Cultural Capital of Europe, in cooperation with Vito Acconci. He also published a special art edition series for the leading German weekly Die Zeit (2001-2004).

Punkenhofer is the editor of Art&IDEA (Hatje Cantz Verlag, 2007) and author of the forthcoming A Way Beyond Creative Industries, an encyclopedic volume on Creative Industries from a global perspective (Folio Publishers, 2010). Punkenhofer is a 1993 alumnus of the Visual Arts Administration M.A. program.
