9-weeks of theme-based studio classes address significant social issues and the ways in which art and artists influence society. Students can choose from different themes such as war, propaganda, environment, and re-visioning history and, through a series of class discussions, field trips, and exercises, develop an idea for a more complex final project. Courses are taught by Steinhardt Art Education MA students and conclude with an exhibit of final works in NYU's Commons for a wide audience of parents, friends, teachers, and NYU faculty. No portfolio is needed to apply. This program is open to young artists of all experience levels.
