FAQ

• How many hours a week do I have to spend at our fieldsite?
   You are expected to volunteer at your fieldsite for a minimum of eight to ten hours per week. Please note, however, that some fieldsites require that students commit more than ten hours a week.
• Is it possible for a student to have more than one fieldsite?
  Yes, students may opt to have more than one fieldsite. For example, some students choose to volunteer at a community agency, as well as on a research team. Typically, students who have more than one site volunteer for a minimum of 10 hours a week.
• What do I actually do at in a fieldsite?
  The specific tasks and activities vary greatly based on the fieldsite.  However, in all sites, you will have a supervised hands-on experienced working in the site of your choice.
• If I plan to go abraod for a semester, and will not be taking Fieldwork I and II during consecutive semesters, when do I apply for a fieldsite?
   Even if you will not be enrolled in Fieldwork II in the semester directly after you take Fieldwork I, submit an application listing your preferences for fieldsite placements while in enrolled in Fieldwork I. On your application, indicate that you will be going abroad. The Fieldwork Director will then let you know whether you should contact potential fieldsites before you go abroad, or whether you should wait until your return before you do so, as this will depend on the particular sites.
• How do I find a fieldsite?
  1.  You learn about the field of psychology  while enrolled in Fieldwork I.

  2.  At the end of Fieldwork I, you submit an application (to the Fieldwork Director) that lists your top four preferences for fieldsite placements, and includes written statements describing why you are interested in those sites. 

  3. The Fieldwork Director will review your application, and will inform you (either in person or via  email) of which sites to contact.

  4.  You contact the supervisors at your approved sites, and go complete the interview process. Once you have finalized your placement, inform the Fieldsite Director. 

  5. Start your placement during your second week in Fieldwork II.

• What is a fieldsite?

  A fieldsite is a setting, with an on-site supervisor, such as a school, hospital, clinic, or a community agency.  A fieldsite can also include the constellation of experiences working on faculty member's research team.
