Education and Social Reform in South Africa

About the Program

The Department of Administration, Leadership, and Technology offers an intensive study abroad program that focuses on education reforms that have been implemented following major social reforms in South Africa. Researchers, government officials, and other knowledgeable presenters share their experiences and what they have learned from the process. The program consists of daily lectures and seminars. There are opportunities for site visits and to meet people who are grappling with reform issues on a daily basis.

The program is relevant for people with broad interests in education reform issues, including educational administrators, teachers, researchers, policy analysts, and anyone interested in learning about other cultures and other educational systems.

There are visits to educational institutions, including those located within the disadvantaged communities and the predominantly black areas. Visits include cultural centers in the area in order to get a full understanding of the broader issues in society and the role that education is playing in development.
