Research interests for Higher Education faculty center around educational policy, governance, system performance, the impact of globalization, adult learning, access and equity, racial inequality and college students. - Professor Richardson’s recent studies have examined policy and higher education performance, structural designs and systemic change, and college and university governance;
- Professor Moja focuses on policy implementation and the impact of globalization particularly in Africa and South Africa;
- Professor Stage studies the role of institutional ethos and the classroom experience on student success and has written recently on research methodologies for studying college students;
- Professor Teranishi studies access, equity, and racial inequality;
- Professor Marcus has focused the Steinhardt Institute for Higher Education Policy on such issues as access, the growing stratification of institutions and their student populations; the effects of competition among institutions; and the interplay of social and cultural influences with higher education;
- Professor Mayhew is interested in how collegiate conditions, educational practices, and student experiences influence learning and democratic outcomes ranging from moral reasoning to high-risk drinking behaviors;
- Professor Hubbard's focus is on student learning, assessment, women and minorities in the STEM disciplines, and research on LGBT college students;
- Professor O’Connor examines university/corporate partnerships, the use of technology in learning, and the role of faculty in university governance.
