Heather Herrera, BA, MA, PhD
In collaboration with faculty, Heather develops and designs courses and programs. She also provides direct support for ongoing program assessment and oversees 14 external accreditation self-studies, as well as Steinhardt’s annual report to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. She supports the senior administration with data-driven decision making and strategic planning. She also manages the approval and registration of new programs with the New York State Education Department and the University advisory committees.
Heather is Steinhardt’s liaison to several University offices and committees: the Office of Academic Program Review, the Office of Academic Assessment, and the University advisory committees. An ex officio member of several school academic committees, Heather is also a member of the NYU Academic Assessment Council and the NYU Learning Portfolio Working Group. She served on the 2013–14 NYU Middle States Assessment Committee.
Prior to joining Steinhardt, Heather was Chair of Letters at the College of New Rochelle, School of New Resources. She has taught first-year composition, literature, and English education methods courses at NYU, the City University of New York, Borough of Manhattan Community College, Hunter College, and Fordham University. Her work focuses on immigrant-origin students in higher education, higher education policy as it relates to access and completion, the role of language and literacy on student academic achievement, and developmental education.
She holds a PhD in English Education from NYU Steinhardt, an MA in Language and Literacy from the City University of New York, and a BA in English from Mills College.
Amanda Mae Dudley, BA, MA
Manager, Academic Assessment & Data Analytics
Amanda Mae Dudley oversees the distribution, collection, and analysis of Steinhardt course evaluations. She provides support to faculty, staff, and students using the online course eveluation platform, and organizes collected data to be useful to Steinhardt faclty and staff. Serving on the Committee for Course Evaluations, Amanda leads research initiatives with the goal of increasing understanding of the student experience in the classroom, both on-campus and in Steinhardt's online programs. She manages the database for existing steinhardt programs and courses, and assists in coordinating program and course proposals and revisions.
She holds a BA in International Affairs from the Geroge Washington University, and an MA in International Education from NYU Steinhardt.
John Lyons, BS, MA
Manager, Accreditation, Program Evaluation & Assessment
In support of faculty and administration across Steinhardt, John organizes and oversees accreditation and programmatic reporting 16 nationally accredited programs. He manages survey development & implementation and other program assessment tools for Steinhardt’s academic programs. He coordinates the development of survey tools for the Steinhardt’s online programs. Through his work, he designs and implements protocols and instrumentation for ongoing program evaluation and improvement.
John started his career as an adult education teacher of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). He has since filled the roles of data analyst, researcher, professional developer, program developer, database manager, grant writer and program director. He has developed and managed nonprofit educational programs in ESOL, GED preparation, Family Literacy and Disconnected Youth.
John holds a BS from the University of Scranton, an MA in Language and Literacy from the City College of New York and is completing his PhD in Teaching and Learning at New York University.
Danny Schieffler, BA, MSW, PhD
Manager, Program Review & Assessment
Dr. Schieffler has over 20 years of experience in various academic and administrative positions centered in University level programming and development. This has included undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and post-doc education, research, advisement, and program planning and design. He has a diverse portfolio which is concentrated in program monitoring and evaluation across disciplines.
He holds a BA in Psychology from University of Louisiana, an MSW from Tulane University, and a PhD in Global Health Management and Policy also from Tulane. Dr. Schieffler also maintains an active research agenda focused on higher education administration and development.
Jessica Sears, BA, MA
Assistant Director, Assessment & Accreditation
Jessica joined the Steinhardt team in 2013. As Assistant Director of Assessment and Accreditation, she assists 15+ programs with preparing for their upcoming national accreditation reviews and visits and manages all accreditation-related fees. She also coordinates the use and implementation of Taskstream and other assessment-related learning management systems at Steinhardt.
Jessica holds an MA in Higher Education and Student Affairs from NYU Steinhardt and a BA in Religion from Dickinson College. She is currently pursuing a second MA in Applied Quantitative Research at NYU GSAS.
