It oversees policies and procedures that guide both undergraduate and graduate study, e.g. student academic progress, the Steinhardt Honors Program, student discipline, student awards and honors, and the New Student Seminars. The Office works closely with undergraduate and graduate student government and is part of the team overseeing financial aid.

Dean Carey also serves as University Associate Vice Provost for Diversity Programs, which includes oversight for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholars Program, academic leadership with the NYU Opportunity Programs, and liaison responsibilities in other academic and student affairs diversity initiatives.

Dean Carey serves as adjunct professor in the Program of Higher Education Administration. Her research interests focus around access, opportunity, and success.  She holds a BA and MA from  Michigan State University, and PhD from New York University.
