As associate dean for global affairs, Erich Dietrich is Steinhardt's senior international officer (SIO). He works with the dean, vice dean, department chairs, and faculty of Steinhardt, and the senior administration of NYU-New York, NYU-Shanghai and NYU-Abu Dhabi on setting and achieving the global vision for the School. He oversees study abroad, international agreements and partnerships, curricular internationalization, and international student recruitment strategy. He chairs the Steinhardt Global Faculty Advisory Committee.
As Assistant Vice President for NYU Global Programs, Erich is part of the university-wide NYU Global Programs leadership team. Specifically, he supports the internationalization of graduate education across NYU and works with the 14 Schools and Colleges of NYU to advance their graduate-level strategic international plans.
Dietrich is an historian whose specialization is race and higher education. He regularly teaches a graduate-level study abroad course, Race, Class and Equity in Higher Education in Brazil
, and an on-campus graduate seminar, the Internationalization of Higher Education. An expert on Brazil, Dietrich serves on the advisory board for the Institute of International Education’s International Academic Partnership Program for Brazil
, which promotes US-Brazil collaborations in higher education. He holds a PhD from New York University, a master’s from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA, magna cum laude, from Carleton College. He is the winner of a Fulbright International Education Award to India, 2016.
